My Melanin Glasses - A Life Saver !!

I don't know how I survived without these glasses ! I wish I could have had them over the last twenty years, as they have made such a positive impact on my life in living with Macular Degeneration. My first pair of Melanin sunglasses were an ordinary looking pair of lenses - I was going to a baseball game the next day and had seats in the sun. I wore the glasses and had no squinting problem at all. The field and players looked so natural. Several hours into the game, I asked my wife an unusual question - Do I have my sunglasses on? Everything looked so natural I couldn't tell !! What happened next was the best of all - I came indoors after sitting in the sun over three hours and had no flashing, swirling lights (photopsias) at all !! For twenty years, whenever I came in from the sun , I lived with these annoying flashes over and over again, sometimes for hours !!What a relief to find something to change that !!

I learned more technical information about Melanin lenses from Dr. James Gallas, the inventor, who sent me all the research on accelerated testing of light exposure to the retina. I learned that all wavelengths of light can hurt the retina if the exposure is high enough - I thought it was only UV light I had to be concerned with. I learned that melanin occurs naturally in our retina, skin and hair and that as we age, we lose melanin and it's protective effects. Now, by replacing and adding melanin to lenses, we are protecting our eyes far beyond what normal sunglasses do, even down the entire light spectrum.

My second pair of melanin glasses were a light yellow tint for indoor glare or glare when I am riding in the car at night. I found them extremely helpful when reading on the CCTV and using the computer. Not only do my eyes feel relaxed, I can tell my whole body feels relaxed. Then, last winter when I was watching the football plyoffs for many hours, I decided to use the glasses and found immediate relief from the burning sensation I had sitting close to the TV. I recently purchased a medium tint (sometimes called computer tint) with my prescription, and have found these lenses to be helpful at the computer, watching TV, glare on a cloudy day or inside stores with lots of glare.
