I am 43. Approx three years ago I was diagnosed with a form of macular degeneration. It appears to be stargardts, but we are still waiting for confirmation. My husband and I have been blessed with six chilren. Our oldest is 19 and our youngest is 5. As long as I can remember I have had trouble with my eyes, but no one ever could tell me what it was. I guess now I am happy I never knew. Although I am presently legally blind (have been for the past three years) I expect I would have done some serious soul searcing as to whether to have children or not. I never had to make that decision. Our kids are truly the best, and I don't know what life would be like without anyone of the six. Our oldest three children 19, 17, 15 all have no symptoms, our 12 year old son does have the same disease. (The yongest two are still too young to tell 5, 8) There is no family history of the disease, I am told things went "wrong" when I was conceived; however, I am told there is a 50/50 chance our children could have it. I love my life and even with my eye sight problems I am thankful my parents had me. I am sure our son will have difficulties, but it all depends on his attitude. I still home school our youngest three children (the older three went to school last year for the first time - so a legally blind parent can successfully homeschool teenagers. Our oldest is now in university and the second one will go next year DV) I run a business from the home which is very successful. I know this may sound strange if you have recently been diagnosed with the disease, but don't worry, there could be a lot worse things to have. Have a positive attitute, encourage your children to reach for the top. Life is what you make of it.

Best wishes for a Blessed Christmas.

Debbie
