Hi,

I do not have macular degeneration, but my son does, he is only 7 though. Not someone your son could connect with. There is a program that my doctor gave me to make the print on the computer to where my son can read it. I don't have it with me here at work so I will have to make another post later for you. So check back. Also, for his academics my son's school got him a CCTV to use in the class room and also he has a CCTV at home. It is awsome, It hooks right up to his TV in his room. My insurance payed for the CCTV, maybe you can check to see if yours does, it would make your sons reading easier. It is about the size of a mouse and he can change the color of the text and text size. He also got a monicle for seeing the chalk board or the things the teacher has on the wall. The school also got my son large print text books and the teacher enlarges work sheets for him. He uses the CCTV in the class for most of his work. Maybe your sons school can make life easier on him by getting him the things he needs. My son went from failing and hating school to making a's and b's. Depending where you are from I guess depends on what is available. I am from Texas and I have found so many resources for my son. Texas also has a programs that you can use tapes and large print books from a state library at no cost. They even provide my son with a special tape recorder.

I hope your son keep his head up and doesn't give up on school. I have heard so many stories of people that have gone to college despite their sight and are doing really well. I hear that alot of people with macular degeneration go in to computer related jobs because you can enlarge the text so easily.

We are all praying for a cure and someday our prayers will be answered. I would love for my son to be able to see.
